About the presenting alumni
Bastiaan Terhaard

Bastiaan Terhaard

Master's programme:

Regenerative Medicine and Technology

Current position:

Application Scientist at Vivolta

Bastiaan followed the bachelor Biomedical Sciences in Utrecht and took a gap year to become a board member of study association MBV Mebiose. During this board year he was responsible for career related activities and acquisition. Together with Career Services, he set up ‘life cycling’, an event in which students visit life sciences companies at Utrecht Science Park to discover life 'beyond university'. Bastiaan is interested in both research and the life sciences industry and therefore worked as a Trainee Concept Development Biomaterials at DSM in between his bachelor and master. After that he studied Regenerative Medicine and Technology where he focussed on orthopaedics-related projects combined with several 3D (bio)printing technologies. He now works as an Application Scientist at Vivolta; a young MedTech company that makes nanofibrous implantable medical devices.

Ward van den Hoogen

Master's programme:

Drug Innovation

Current position:

Associate Scientist at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson

Ward studied Drug Innovation and graduated from Utrecht University in 2017. It was his goal to contribute to the development of new treatment options in the field of immunology and felt that a pharmaceutical company would be the best place for him to go. Although it was a hard decision, Ward decided not to do a PhD before joining a pharmaceutical company and joined the Clinical Immunology department of Janssen Viral Vaccines straight after his Master’s degree. After 3 years, he switched to the pre-clinical immunology department, which evaluates the efficacy of viral vaccine candidates in animal models. Ward now happily works here as a technician.
