Come to the 384th Dies Natalis on Thursday 26 March 2020 in St Martin's Cathedral and let's celebrate Utrecht University's birthday together!
The theme of this year's celebration is 'World Class University'. This is how the university is often described. And yes, it does score excellent internationally. But rankings are one-sided and limited in scope. That is why we ask the question now: what actually is a world class university? What assets does it have? How does an international orientation relate to an ambition to add value to our immediate environment? How does a research university profile relate to a commitment to provide students with the best possible education? We want to be a university with a head ánd a heart. But when is this the case for ourselves and for society?
This will be addressed further by professor Simone Buitendijk, Vice-Provost (Education) and professor at Imperial College London, in her dies speech called: 'Can universities save our planet?' Two honorary doctorates, the Outstanding Teacher Award, the Teacher Talent Award and the Alumnus of the Year Award will also be presented during the celebration. Rosa Falkenburg, Programme Coordinator at Parnassos Culture Centre, has written a new University song, which she will perform for the very first time.
Please register befóre Friday 13 March. This way you will receive the entrance tickets one week before. Are you unable to attend? This year it will again be possible to watch the Dies via livestream.
