You should wear a face mask when moving around in university buildings and give each other space. Once you are at your destination, you can take off your face mask.

Study places, study landscapes, self-study and project rooms in the university buildings are open to students. The 1.5-metre rule does not apply here anymore (exception: study landscape in the Hijmans van den Bergh building). The 1.5-metre rule still applies to all other locations inside the buildings. There is also a maximum visitor count of 75 persons per room.

  • Places for self-study in the university library You can book a place up to 2 days in advance through the reservation system. Read here how to make a reservation for the University Library
    • Monday to Friday: 8.30 - 22.30 hrs
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10.00 - 22.30 hrs
  • Self-study and group study places in classrooms. You can book these via Resource Booker when rooms are not scheduled for teaching. You can make a reservation up to 14 days in advance.
  • Study places in in the city centre and the Utrecht Science Park without reservation. These are study places for self-study (individual) and group study places. 

Do the corona check (pdf) before you go to university. Stay at home if the check tells you to. When on campus, please make sure you follow the safety guidelines:

  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Follow the instructions.

Available study places University Library

Due to the corona virus, the study places in the university library are limited. A total of 191 in the University Library USP and 95 in the University Library City Centre are available. 

Reservation study places
Study places in the university library are available by reservation and only for students of Utrecht University. Study places in Utrecht University Library must be booked on  A new system that makes booking study places simple. Another advantage is that no-show bookings will be automatically deleted, making these places available for other visitors.

This is how it works:

  1. Book a study place on At the reception desk of the library you show your proof of identity and the confirmation email you received.
  2. Check in at the study place by scanning the QR code on the table*, use the one-time code you’ve received in the confirmation email. Don’t forget to check in, otherwise your place will be released after thirty minutes.
  3. When you leave or leave earlier, scan the QR code again to check out.

Please think of your fellow students: have you booked a study space you don’t need after all? Cancel the reservation through the link in the confirmation mail or call 030-253 61 15.

* Beware of phishing. The QR codes on the tables do not ask for your password, you will be directed immediately to the booking system. Check if this conforms to the confirmation email you received.

From September 25th, the following rules apply:

  • Reservation of study places via remains obligatory
  • All study places in the University Library's available (so not 75 places per room)
  • No more 1.5 meter distance

Study places in other buildings 

In addition to the study places on reservation in the university libraries, there are also study places for students in other university buildings. You can only use study workplaces where the corona measures are indicated. Please work on group assignments online.

In the following buildings, you will find study places for students who cannot study well at home due to circumstances. You can reserve a spot in these buildings yourself through Resource Booker. Floor plans are available for each location that indicate where the study areas are located.
