English language proficiency B2 (see CEFR).

Once you have been accepted as an exchange student in Basel, you will have to prepare to enter and live in Switzerland as a foreigner.

EU citizens and students coming from EFTA members do not need to apply for visa. They will have to register at the immigration office and get their residency permit once they are in Basel.

Non-EU-citizens will need to check the requirements at the Swiss embassy.

Language of instruction

The language of instruction in bachelor’s degree programs, but also in some master’s degree programs, is predominantly German. German is also the principal examination language, both in written and in oral examinations. To successfully pursue their chosen degree course, students are advised to have attained language skills at Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages before the beginning of their degree program. The same also applies to English for those master’s degree programs taught primarily in English.
