Law in a European and Global Context - courses

International Business Law - courses

Transnational Law Curriculum (TLC): there are no entrance requirements as it is part of the undergraduate programme. It's available for both regular and Exchange students. Nonetheless, please note that these seminars are quite demanding and even though these do not correspond to 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year courses, the TLC is not available to 1st year students.This said, there are obviously more introductory courses like Federalism and the European Union and more advanced ones like International law of the Sea - courses


Exchange programme (general information)

Academic calendar

Semester 1: 2nd week of September – late December: classes

                      Early January – 1st week of February: exams 

Semester 2: 2nd week of February – late May: classes 

                      Early June – mid July: written and oral exams




Language of instruction: Portuguese & English

Language requirements: B2. UU bachelor students do not need to provide proof of their English proficiency

The seminars in English are demanding and require a strong command of the language.

Master’s students interested in the LL.M. courses must show proof of their English proficiency, by having one of the following certificates:

  • Proficiency in English by the University of Cambridge;
  • TOEFL at least 100 (IBT);
  • IELTS at least 7.

The following information is based on inquiries to International students who studied at Católica.

  • Meals: 300 - 400€/month
  • Monthly ticket for public transportation: 37€
  • Coffee: 0,6€


  • Renting a room: 300 - 600€/month 


  • Renting an apartment: 800 - 1200€/month

The University does not provide housing. Lisbon is a populair city and the demand for housing is high. Anticipate the time and effort it may take you to find a room, and begin your search well in advance of your arrival. Make sure to check a residence before renting it. 

As a reference, a 3 bedroom apartment in Lisbon can range from 800€ to 1200€ per month and a room in a shared flat may vary from 300€ to 600€, depending on the quality, size and location.
