This partnership is based on a bilateral agreement between Science UU and the Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz within the departement of Mathematics. 

Courses at Master level

Yes

Language of instruction

At JGU most of the courses are taught exclusively in German. Only a few subjects are taught in English.

Exchange students do not have to pass a formal language examination in order to qualify for enrolment at JGU. However, intermediate language proficiency in German is expected, to an equivalent of B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).

The Internationale Studien- und Sprachenkolleg (ISSK) offers German language courses for exchange students during the lecture period.

Estimated living costs per month

Beside the first expenses on your arrival, you will need a certain sum every month (about € 700) for your everyday expenses during your stay in Mainz:

ca. € 300 dormitory rent
ca. € 70 health insurance (mandatory for students) and
ca. € 330 for food, clothing and other expenditures.
