Emotions, coping strategies & climate change: the voice of young people (English)

On 4 December 2025, just in time for Sinterklaas, it is time to speak about emotions, coping, and climate change. How do young people cope with a diverse set of climate change emotions?

Within the Dynamics of Youth strategic theme, the team of Michiel van Harskamp (Faculty of Science), Andrik Becht, and Sander Thomaes (Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences) have been working on this theme in an interdisciplinary research project throughout 2025. Their work adopts a mixed-methods approach, with large-scale quantitative data showing associations between climate emotions and coping, and small-scale interview data looking into the nature of these associations and students' reasoning.

During this symposium with a diverse set of talks, activities, and interactive sessions, including international guests, we will explore this important theme together.
